Sports and recreation play a major role in American culture. Some popular sports in America include American football, baseball, soccer, volleyball, basketball,hockey/ice hockey, tennis, swimming, softball, golf, running, hunting, fishing, dance, and cheer. Sports and recreation often vary depending on the climate, the state, and age. Sports like football, baseball, softball. basketball, volleyball, swimming, basketball, and hockey are popular among young children, teens, and young adults. While sports like tennis, golf, and running are popular with all ages. Sports are often part of many children's' and teens' daily routines. At younger ages sports often revolve around having fun, and preparing the athlete for the sport when they are older. Once you are a teenager practice typically gets longer, coaches get stricter, and the sport becomes much more intense. Practices often range from 2-3 hours long at the teen level. Also at this level, the athletes are being prepared and pushed for college scholarship opportunities and any opportunity to play professionally. Teens are often missing school and sometimes dropping out of school altogether in order to travel and play their sports. In sports like hockey and baseball athletes are moving all over the country and sometimes out of the country to play on the top teams at an elite level. Athletes are pushed and conditioned to an intense and professional level at a young age. Coaches will often sit their athletes out of a game, event, or competition for one simple mistake or missing a practice. Sports and recreation often get dangerous as the athlete gets older, the athletes are pushed to such an intense level that their bodies and health is being put at risk for injury. Some common injuries among teen athletes include concussions, sprains, breaks, fractures, tendonitis, stress injuries, knee, ACL and meniscus injuries. This was just a little inside on sports and recreation in America, although it may sound scary or bad, these athletes love what they are doing and are doing thier best to stay active and healthy.
