The Inventor's Secret, October Independent Reading Book

Over the month of November, I read the book The Inventors Secret, by Andrea Cremer. The book takes place in modern day America, the only problem is that the American Revolution never happened. We are still under the rule of England, and life is in shambles. The book follows sixteen year old Charlotte and her band of rebellious teens as they do small raids to keep their life together and hide from the British Empire. All is well in their hidden home, the cave known as Catacombs, until Charlotte saves a boy no memory and is made entirely out of metal. The crew set out to New York City, the most corrupt city where they plan to get some much needed supplies and discover the boys past to make sure he isn't a spy. All is going according to plan until all hell breaks loose.
I chose to read The Inventors Secret because I am a bit of a history geek and I always sit in history class with one main question, What if? This book is my answer to the what if America ever won the Revolution? I would recommend this book to everyone, regardless of the country you come from, because it draws you in and you can't put it down. It has several plot twists and you quickly get attached to the characters.
The book is connected to the American Culture today because everyday, Americans take things for granted, like a nice home, their dog, anything, This book shows a world where they don't have any of that and have to fight for what they want and need like animals. It makes one grateful for the things that we have in America, like freedom, and yes, your dog. I never saw the things I have until I read the book, you should too.
